<craige> I did follow up on that order, I jsut never pruchased - probably ha too many interrupt requests :-)
<samueldr> anyway, I need to fix what is likely the same issue on the pixel 2
<samueldr> and then we'll know if it was the same issue or not
<craige> I"m not sure why LineageOS boots OK but I can't get hte same kernel ocnfig to work for mobile-nixos. That's got me scratching my head.
<craige> (same config, same kernel version)
<samueldr> I think we stopped it was "hanging" on the google logo, right?
<samueldr> and not expecting to continue on to lineageOS, right?
<samueldr> in that case, it might have been working
<craige> Yes at that time it was not shadowing a working LineageOS tree
<samueldr> the issue, I think, is that we don't have framebuffer access, and android uses their own ways to do it
<craige> but even when it was, yep, same pleace.
<craige> That would make sense.
<samueldr> though, a common issue of "fails to work" is compiling with the "wrong" compiler
<craige> That could have also been true.
<samueldr> I know for the pixel 2, that the main issue was no framebuffer
<samueldr> (and no usb gadget)
<samueldr> with serial, it'll be trivial to fixup usb gadget, then possible to figure out the issues with framebuffer
<craige> These lines, these were the recommendations, samueldr? https://logs.nix.samueldr.com/nixos-aarch64/2019-11-05#2755523
<samueldr> the type-c test pcb from aliexpress is the exact one I'm using, so yes
<samueldr> the following one is the *kind* of serial interface I'm using, so kind of
<samueldr> the main requirement is that it might need short wires
<samueldr> this is the kind I'm using
<samueldr> short wires on TX/RX
<samueldr> (with the pin headers)
<craige> My plugins essentially bock everything from Aliexpress :-)
<samueldr> oh, you might also want dupont style wires, F to F
<samueldr> all in all, under 10$CAD for a specialist implement is quite cheap
<craige> 40pc dupont wires set for < $1.
<craige> We truly do benefit from outsourcing polution and slavery to China :-(
<clever> craige: ive heard that some of the lower cost batteries they sell, are just them exporting chemical waste :P
<craige> or citrus fruit :-)
<samueldr> btw, obviously going through aliexpress/ebay cheapest options is not the only option for the cable, but that's the... cheapest... option
<samueldr> as long as you can get GND, SBU1 and SBU2, that should get you serial
<craige> Oh, I've already bought. Just reminding myself.
<samueldr> lol
<samueldr> though that pass-through type adapter is good to, *in addition*, getting adb/rndis working with serial
<craige> USD $3.82 for the device and cables.

<thefloweringash> ooh, my HoneyComb LX2K just arrived
<samueldr> or was it more properly packaged?
<thefloweringash> It was packaged exactly like that
<thefloweringash> Doesn’t even seem to have an io shield.
<thefloweringash> But I got 4xSFP+ when I expected 2xSFP+, so it’s not all bad.

<samueldr> if you do EDK2 stuff, I have this I want to re-do https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/53064
<{^_^}> #53064 (by samueldr, 45 weeks ago, open): WIP: EDK2, OVMF.fd: fixes for cross-compilation + dependencies + armv7l
<samueldr> in which I tried to make EDK2 act more like an SDK thingy
<samueldr> I want to build the raspberry pi EDK2 firmware with it

<thefloweringash> at least they acknowledge there's a problem: "Unfortunately we received few complaints from customers about the packaging. This is the first time our EMS ships the product and they had some units which were packed improperly."
<thefloweringash> and "If you received a damaged product we will supply a new system asap. "

<gchristensen> we managed to stabilize thespot market by abusing it a bit over the past couple days and I think we solved the churn for now, stabilizing on 6 instances https://status.nixos.org/grafana/d/zYs5NPJZz/c2-large-arm-churn-debug?orgId=1&from=now-12h&to=now&refresh=10s

<lordcirth__> samueldr, cross-system/configuration.nix pulls in "minimal", "installation-device", and "sd-image". A comment says it is GUI-less, yet when I build it, I see Firefox go by. I can't figure out where this is being pulled in.
<samueldr> couldn't say, right now
<samueldr> I'll be building a native image, since cross-compiled your first rebuild will... not be fun
<lordcirth__> I wanted to use nix why-depends, but minimal.nix, etc aren't packages
<lordcirth__> Well, my hope is to create a minimal cross-compiled image, just enough to do a native rebuild.
<samueldr> and will validate that using nix on the shipped OS can build the full image
<samueldr> (for users without another aarch64 device)
<lordcirth__> That would be nice. I'd love to also be able to bootstrap without an ARM device, though.
<lordcirth__> Also I just want to figure out how this image generation works, anyway
<samueldr> ah, wasn't telling you not to look into it :) just saying that it wouldn't be _needed_ :)
<samueldr> more power for doing weird things
<clever> lordcirth__: use nix-instantiate to find the drv, then nix-store --query --tree to get a dep tree from that drv
<clever> lordcirth__: then use less to search for firefox, and follow the line upwards
<lordcirth__> clever, thanks, I will try that!
<clever> nix why-depends automates that, but last i checked, it didnt work on .drv files
<lordcirth__> error: cannot auto-call a function that has an argument without a default value ('config')
<clever> lordcirth__: you want to nix-instantiate the same thing you would have ran nix-build on
<clever> (which is not configuration.nix. its nixpkgs/nixos/default.nix)
<lordcirth__> "nix-instantiate system.nix --argstr system aarch64-linux" seems to be doing something...
