<cybertron> hi does anyone has experiences with nixos on odroid n2?
<sphalerite> funny, a colleague of mine was asking the same thing the other day :)
<cybertron> I'm sure I know him ;)
<sphalerite> aaah :D

<sphalerite> mediatek bad, right?
<samueldr> kind of
<samueldr> mediatek: ymmv
<samueldr> THOUGH, for micro-usb devices there may be this fun thing to try https://www.stevenhoneyman.co.uk/2014/11/mtk-mediatek-debug-cable.html
<samueldr> will soon try
<samueldr> well, "soon"

<sphalerite> hm, interesting
<sphalerite> because I'm considering getting a 100€ phone for experiments
<sphalerite> although experiments require time :/
<tilpner> The pinephone? c.c
<tilpner> Not quite 100€, but in the right price range
<samueldr> pinephone is A64, much much much better for mainline linux
<samueldr> A64 meaning Allwinner A64
<samueldr> sphalerite: make sure first that (1) the phone is unlockable (2) all relevant sources are released by the OEM
<samueldr> and maybe also dig a bit see if other users have done things with the device
<samueldr> and for type-c devices, there is apparently another cable that can be made for serial, I think flokli knows more about that
<samueldr> (for MTK devices)

<DigitalKiwi> what's the best way to pay for stuff on aliexpress?
<samueldr> likely whichever way you're fine with using that they provide
<samueldr> though, at first I was hesitant, but I added my card to their alipay system, it works just right
<DigitalKiwi> does delivery time vary wildly or do you know about how long stuff takes?
<samueldr> aliexpress is akin to ebay, it's sellers-based
<samueldr> so it could differ
<DigitalKiwi> ah
<samueldr> and it will differ depending on the shipper they use, then from where it's from, and then where it goes
<samueldr> I only have data points about going into Québec, so not that useful for you I assume
<samueldr> (kinda assuming you're not in the province, and not even in the country)
<samueldr> though, I have found that the estimates on item pages are generally good at the worst; and they have good protection for things not arriving
<DigitalKiwi> i'm about 200 miles closer
<DigitalKiwi> err, km
<DigitalKiwi> that's how it works right? :)
<samueldr> "miles" are pretty much confirming my assumptions :)
<DigitalKiwi> pfft most of the internet is in miles!
