<ixxie> DigitalKiwi: sleepy time for me...
<ixxie> DigitalKiwi: fwiw, if you do merge and decide to tag, I say we indeed go with 0.1.0 since we will be fiddling with the API a lot soon so this would signal that situation better

<colemickens> Do all of the nixops providers work with a pre-existing image? Do any of them support/require building/uploading the nixops bootstrap image?

<raghavsood> So, if I have a desktop PC booted up using the nixos installer via USB, could I technically use nixops to deploy a persistent image to it?

<raghavsood> on that note, is it even possible to deploy a full machine using none (including filesystem partitioning, etc), or will it only be able to manage the configuration of an already-deployed machine?
<raghavsood> Most of the links I can find on that topic are just about how there isn't documentation on the none backend
<adisbladis> raghavsood: Only a deployed machine.
<raghavsood> I see, well that simplifies that bit, thanks!

<adisbladis> colemickens: NixOps itself doesn't enforce any one model. Most implementations upload images but some (the DigitalOcean one for example) pivots from Ubuntu
<colemickens> adisbladis: oh cool, interesting to hear, thanks!
<adisbladis> colemickens: The EC2 backend allows you to set a custom AMI, the GCE backend I think has something similar
<adisbladis> In theory it would be possible to make a plugin that utilises kexec and could pivot any running linux system into a NixOS system (of course partitioning and other hw specifics would need to be solved too)
<ixxie> fwiw, we will likely change the DO approach to upload an image
<ixxie> any other method such as nixos infect and kexec is just slower
<ixxie> adisbladis: do you have a moment?
<adisbladis> ixxie: Um, sure?
<ixxie> adisbladis: maybe its easier to share screen with you on the jitsi meet?

<ixxie> DigitalKiwi: we are gooood to go!
<DigitalKiwi> ohhi
<DigitalKiwi> we will be well prepared for when digital sea launches and also calls their VMs droplets
<DigitalKiwi> digital oasis on the other hand...
<ixxie> will launch grainlets :D
