<nbathum> I want to propose moving the event date further out. IMO push it like 8 weeks, to December 11-13th
<nbathum> It is maybe not ideal, but let me say why. Currently we're 4 weeks out, and we have about half the amount of content (talks) than we'd planned for
<nbathum> one of the submitted talks even was withdrawn, and for the reason, they said essentially "lack of time"
<nbathum> IMO are choices are sort of "reimagine the conf" vs "keep conf idea as much same, but do it a bit later"
<nbathum> the biggest downside is that for current speakers, they have been planning for these dates, maybe they've taken time off work, etc
<nbathum> obvs this is a big decision so I'll try to ping more people on these matters, and we can discuss on Tuesday
<nbathum> if we were to move the date, we need to be damn sure that we can communicate well about it, and have a plan to secure more content.

<adisbladis> I wonder what pushing the date will do though, realistically speaking
<adisbladis> If I were to hazard a guess I'd say that it's likely that a remote conference is not as appealing to speakers?
<nbathum> as in, no matter 4 weeks or 12 weeks, will we get more speakers?
<nbathum> okay, good question
<adisbladis> I'm obviously not sure what the answer is, but I have a hunch it won't do that much
<adisbladis> I can only speak for myself here, but I think doing talks to a screen sucks and therefore wouldn't submit anything to a remote conference

<nbathum> "to a screen" because you cannot see the people's response/reactions?
<adisbladis> Partially, sure. Also the fact that there is no "corridor talk" after, no social serendipity.
<adisbladis> There are other factors to consider too: What other things does pushing the date result in?
<adisbladis> What does it mean for sponsors?
<adisbladis> Have people already cleared schedules to attend/speak?
<andi-> Yeah, that is also my concern :)
<nbathum> andi-: which part
<andi-> most/all of what adam said
<andi-> You have the complexity of people already having made arrangements (even if those aren't travel related)
<nbathum> hrmm
<nbathum> yes perhaps I am discounting that aspect too much
<andi-> On the other hand I do not know how many speakers there are already
<adisbladis> At the end of the day it's a judgement call. Do you have a strategy for getting more speakers or do you just expect time to resolve that?
<andi-> Just wanted to check the CFP interface but my accout doesn't work anymore :/
<nbathum> we would need to do a few things. it'd be nice to have a community-driven funnel. the survey had some responses about things that people want, like "how to start contributing to nixpkgs". can look around at community activity, find people doing related things, and message them to ask if they would like to present on those things.
<nbathum> andi-: yes sorry, the CFP server this year is new
<nbathum> for instance, I know Jon Ringer has a few youtube videos on that topic, would message him. repeat for other topics
<nbathum> andi-: invited you to new CFP server. would anyone else like an invitation?
<andi-> nbathum: I was mostly concerned about the data of the previous years
<andi-> like we likely do not have a copy of the schedule anymore
<nbathum> oh, I see. I don't have it, not sure who might
<avocadoom1> nbathum: I'll take a look on that later tomorrow.
<nbathum> avocadoom1: thank you!

<samueldr> nbathum: maybe if you have a list of talk topics that are desired, "generic" talks
<samueldr> >> like "how to start contributing to nixpkgs"
<samueldr> maybe we have people that would be interesting in making such talks, but wouldn't propose such talks
<samueldr> I know I only selfishly thought only about my own project and couldn't think about more than a talk I'm not even sure I'd be interested in either giving or listening to
<samueldr> but now this makes me think about a subject... though I'd need to research it some more beforehand
