I had fully tested bootstrapping on big sur, but with a slightly different iteration of libSystem I was working on. I don't see anything stopping us fetching the stubs early on (in stage1), but I don't yet have an implementation.

thefloweringash: cool doesn't have to be the final thing, but bootstrap tools does block the unstable channel so we probably shouldn't put that in staging unless it works

otherwise I've still not really seen any concerning regressions so this is most likely good enough to ship :D

also, maybe rebase against my branch so we don't forget to switch to the proper bootstrap tarball before merging

yeah the bootstrap change should't require a full rebuild so everything is tested enough for staging

staging has been merged since I rebased so we can't go straight to master anyway

main goal for me was to make sure we don't drop a bomb on staging so the workflow gets stuck until we fix things

ok, pushed a rebase onto staging: dropped the cctools revert, squashed the fixups, and took your bootstrap tools commit. I'll do a stdenv, hello, and perlPackages.LocaleGettext build here and mark it ready if nothing explodes
