<LnL> oh! jedi in ycmd is broken, I think that's why my vim setup was so laggy today

<clever> LnL: oh, mine has also been fairly laggy for the last week or so
<LnL> might have been something else, but I'm pretty sure it's gone now
<LnL> I think during insert mode the client was spamming the ycmd background server because it didn't get a proper reply for semantic completions
<clever> yeah, it was only laggy during completion events
<clever> and sometimes pasting a line of text would hang vim for 3 minutes
<LnL> if it was in python files it's probably this

<LnL> it actually took me a while to realise, I've been fiddling a bunch with my setup the last few days
* LnL discovered another tpope plugin

<johnw> the only real problem with overlays is knowing when you don't need them anymore...
<LnL> heh, yeah also reconstructing upstream changes
<LnL> I've thought about implementing a ~/.config/nixpkgs/patches a bunch of times
<LnL> I think that would make channels much more useful, since you don't have to fallback to managing your own git branch instead
<johnw> i don't manage a git branch anymore
<johnw> i try to leave nixpkgs alone
<johnw> and just create overlays on top of it
<johnw> but I also find that these overlays rarely make it back into nixpkgs
<johnw> so it's cleaner, but not entirely ideal
