No, that's definitely temporary and hopefully not for too long. If you don't want to risk being stuck on an older firefox you could also write your own expression to either build or fetch the latest release.

I tried and failed to understand the new way of managing extensions via nixpkgs, but coudn't find out how it's done now. I think I'll give it a few days and hope home-manager is fixed so it has the most up-to-date firefox and can manages extensions at a same time, this was such a great feature
