Sounds like X is having trouble starting. You could examine /var/log/X.0.log to see if there's anything fun. You could also check dmesg.

Odds are good that either you need to switch drivers (possibly by changing whether you're using kernel modesetting), or that the magic smoke might be leaving your GPU. Which GPU vendor and driver are you using?

hi everyone, I'd have 2 quick questions about NixOS. 1. Can you really have a clean system with Nix and Home Manager? By that I mean, that if you rebuild there won't be residue, like I don't know previous configs, ... and 2. same for the home do you have a home that only contains the data you've created? Or programs still creates in .local,

If you have a file/dir that is used in a derivation/nix build, does it then load the entire file into memory? Or how does it handle that. I want to test some docker images, which are packaged as tar.gz, but it seems like quite much, that it loads it all into memory
<eyJhb>
Not surue if there is any better way.. I could build it all using Nix, and then give it that derivation, but that is not really possible
<viric>
I don't know how to make one flake refer to another flake
<nh2[m]>
eyJhb: there were multiple issues with Nix in the past where it loaded source files / packages fully into memory (e.g. during nix-copy-closure). Many of them got fixed, but it is possible that the docker stuff you're doing may still trigger one of them

umm, okay then!

Is the default configuration nixos generates (or nixos-install I guess?) in the nixpkgs repo somewhere? I'm looking for the stateVersion comment.

i had a problem with nvidia and the latest linux kernel, drivers not supposed to be available till later this month, set kernel to previous, and continue to use unstable
<chrisaw>
@hplar: I did exactly that but same issue. If I switch to render offload mode it works fine but otherwise with just the "pure" nvidia driver - gdm never starts - looks like Xorg bombs out with the no displays found error. :(
<hplar>
i see ldc (d compiler) has been updated at last, many thanks !
