<andi-> what hardware would you guys choose for a (homeish) router? Thinking about hardware that is able to route at least 1.5Mpps / 1Gbps IPv4 NAT (ofc v6 throughput ;-)
<gchristensen> I mean disasm and I both have apu2c4s :P
<andi-> I know those..
<andi-> they aren't really on-par with what I currently have..
<andi-> an oldish i5 4th gen, 2x 1Gb Intel NICs
<andi-> the CPU on the APUs is usually a bit weaker :/
<sphalerite> Oooh, those run coreboot? Sweet
<clever> cransom, gchristensen: to make port forwarding work from within, it also needs an SNAT rule that fudges the source ip to be that of the router
<clever> then the .105 machine sends replies to the router, which can un-mangle the replies
<clever> and send them to another lan machine
<disasm> sphalerite: yeah, coreboot. So far I'm loving mine :)
<disasm> although I wish ipv4 would die so I could simplify my firewall rules, lol
<sphalerite> I finally got IPv6 at home here in Scotland just a couple weeks ago, whoop whoop
<sphalerite> my university still doesn't have IPv6, whoop whoop
<disasm> sphalerite: does your ISP do prefix delegation?
<sphalerite> yep
<sphalerite> it was about time they got IPv6 rolled out too, they never had enough IPv4 space for all their customers (it's a fairly new company) so they have to use CGNAT for it
