<jtojnar>
gnome-photos do not seem to pick up photos from Pictures but there are no errors at least
<jtojnar>
I think we should just not install it by default
<worldofpeace>
huh, what's wrong with photos? (I haven't been following the thread very close because of nixcon and stuff)
<worldofpeace>
Yeah, the thing with photos is... why is this program not having basic features yet đ¤Ŗ I believe we installed it default because "gnome-build-meta", though I can't recall if maybe Ubuntu goes with shotwell, which is actually the better program (elementary-photos was a fork of it but I believe their has got a lot of rewrites now)
<jtojnar>
worldofpeace: I have no idea what is wrong with it, it seems to start tracker successfully but it just does not display any pictures
<jtojnar>
even though I added a picture to ~/Pictures
<jtojnar>
by the way, gnome module did not even build with aliases disabled đ
<jtojnar>
* by the way, gnome module did not even eval with aliases disabled đ
<jtojnar>
due to photos being in pkgs
<worldofpeace>
yeah, just looked at that commit. hmm, I'm gonna play with photos to see if I can reproduce
<worldofpeace>
<jtojnar "maybe we could try applying http"> if it really is still just weird, I think maybe applying that could be fine. Like, that's better than not displaying any pictures
<jtojnar>
ugh, Wanda is disturbing
<jtojnar>
what about Documents and Books?
<jtojnar>
worldofpeace: now testing the tracker 3 port
<jtojnar>
worldofpeace: with tracker 3 the photo is picked up
<worldofpeace>
Hmm, wouldn't it mean if photos can't find photos mean the tracker 2 stuff not working at all? Maybe the logging can be seen over dbus (erm, wait I never really looked at photos source code)
<jtojnar>
it is possible that tracker2 is at fault but there were no errors
<jtojnar>
will try it with Documents
<jtojnar>
worldofpeace: so documents just straight out crash on startup
<jtojnar>
I guess we can mark it as broken and drop tracker2
<jtojnar>
Pushed a drop pr
<worldofpeace>
Lol, I guess their suggestion this would all work wasn't true or just isn't for us in some specific reason
<worldofpeace>
Jan Tojnar: đī¸ good on just dropping it and marking those two apps as broken
<worldofpeace>
they're not default for us anyways
<jtojnar>
okay, now second set of eyes on the commits and then I will rebase onto master
<worldofpeace>
Commit range? It collapsed it so I was going to do it locally đ¸
<jtojnar>
hmm, hard to say where we ended up đē
<jtojnar>
perhaps 5f235c2...HEAD
<jtojnar>
worldofpeace: just went through the range again and we have one potentially controversial
<jtojnar>
syncthing-gtk author hates Python 2
<jtojnar>
so I marked it as broken đ¸
<jtojnar>
* syncthing-gtk author hates Python 3
<worldofpeace>
Jan Tojnar: just looked at that thread. considering it has no "meta.maintainers" there's no one to ping on an issue saying we had to mark it broken
<worldofpeace>
According to the wiki it says "Empathy is currently no longer in development (see also Attic/Unmaintained). " https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Empathy
<worldofpeace>
Or was it that we meant to just remove it?
<jtojnar>
well folks now build with telepathy-glib so we can just delay it until it breaks completely
<worldofpeace>
Is it possible to just build folks without telepathy-glib but give it a telepathySupport to override for empathy Jan Tojnar ?
<jtojnar>
sure, can do that as well
<worldofpeace>
(I really looking to just purge telepathy from the gnome3 default unless u turn it on)
<worldofpeace>
Gotcha, lol, perhaps after the rebase but drop both folks commits?
<worldofpeace>
then I can push that for folks and empathy
<jtojnar>
yup, I will squash the reverts against the reverted
<worldofpeace>
thx, and I guess that's also my approval đ¸
<jtojnar>
thanks, rebasing now
<jtojnar>
do we do one more round?
<jtojnar>
or should we just merge it to staging since it seems to work now?
<worldofpeace>
I think once I push the empathy/folks thing we can just go to staging đī¸
<worldofpeace>
probably too many commits for our own good to chill in a PR anymore
<jtojnar>
worldofpeace: looks like we made byte for byte the same dash-to-dock commit so rebase just dropped the dupe
<jtojnar>
anyway pushed
<jtojnar>
it will probably be too much to build the empathy now (depends on webkitgtk iiirc) but I guess we can just check if it evals
<worldofpeace>
haha, there are very few teams that can make byte for byte identical commits independently (though this one was pretty obvious)
<worldofpeace>
Jan Tojnar: pushed those two commits đ¯
<jtojnar>
ugh, forgot to edit the webkitgtk expression
<jtojnar>
worldofpeace: okay, we can merge now, I think
<worldofpeace>
yay â¨
<worldofpeace>
Jan Tojnar: waiting for eval right?
<worldofpeace>
Also, I just realized that libinput module in nixos will do nothing on wayland because it uses xserver config. The only way to configure it would be with dconf âšī¸
<jtojnar>
right, it is so slow
<jtojnar>
indeed, I think someone was interested in making the module configure it on Wayland
<jtojnar>
but when they learnt what it would require they decided to back away
