<sphalerite>
the galaxy book s sounds interesting — ARM-based windows laptop with a rather nice battery life
<sphalerite>
I wonder how the chances of getting linux running on it are..?
<sphalerite>
AFAIK windows running on it is a good sign?

<samueldr>
probably a bad target, unless the 8cx fixed the major design flaws of qualcomm-based windows laptops
<samueldr>
the main issue being partitions being all kind of weird, with the computer's required firmware partitions being strewn across interpersed with the operating system's partitions
<samueldr>
look at a recent android device's partitioning scheme
<samueldr>
it's basically like that
<samueldr>
as of recently, there was no known way to recover even simply windows on them, if you removed it
<samueldr>
and definitely no way to recover if you erased the firmware
<samueldr>
just like with qualcomm android devices, it should be going to EDL mode, and it requires signed programs to do anything, which you probably won't have (unless they leak)
<samueldr>
that is, unless samsung has gone full NIH and made it follow *their* boot chain with knox and whatnots

<samueldr>
basically, that platform, until fixed to put the firmware out of the main storage, is basically DOA for anything more than a toy with that windows pre-installed
<samueldr>
which is sad, since it *is* an ARM ACPI platform using standard UEFI to boot

samueldr: aw, that's a shame. Thanks for the info!
<samueldr>
if the situation ever changes for qualcomm-based laptops, I'll sure leave a note in here
