yeah… my nanopi m4 has a PCIe interface and a SATA hat to use with it, that's already so much better than SD

maybe even more useful since I want to connect lots of storage (I have 2 small SATA SSDs and 2 8TB HDDs attached)

the place this hurts the most is on a chromebook. you can't just dangle fast storage out a port and still call it a laptop

sphalerite: the best way to "boot" from usb with a raspi 3 I think is putting tianocore (and only tianocore) on an SD card, and treating the raspi like a standard uefi machine, and forget about the fact it has a sd card

you end up maximizing the compatibility with USB, the standard usb boot chain on the raspberry pi will sometimes not be able to boot from some usb drives

and having the tianocore splash screen, then grub, show up on the raspberry pi is a fun experience imo

hopefully it won't be long until upstream adds the rpi4 to tianocore/EDK2; it already is somewhat working apparently

samueldr: those kinds of bugs are baked into the boot rom and cant easily be fixed
