Am I right in saying that in general the default Nix package channels will work for MacOS, and that nix-darwin is just for system configuration similar to NixOS?
<cransom>
that's accurate.
<__monty__>
Yeah, nixpkgs-unstable is all I've used.
<benschza>
Great. And having never used MacOS, this may be a silly question, but will GUI apps installed via Nix work in general - like Qt apps?
<__monty__>
Wouldn't say in general. Usually they need special consideration ime.
<benschza>
Thanks :) Maybe I'll spin up a Virtualbox and see what works.
<benschza>
Setting this all up is probably going to make me realize how much I'd miss NixOS config :)
<Mic92>
Why missing out?
<benschza>
I'm considering a MacBook as an upgrade. I suppose NixOS could be installed in VM or dual boot with some effort. I assume nix-darwin is not compatible with a lot of my existing NixOS config.
<Mic92>
There a lot less modules there, but I suppose on macOS you will have different needs anyway and some modules don't make much sense because they are already read-configured.
