<__monty__> Does anyone have a solution for installing apps that place things like .kexts in /Library?
<__monty__> I wanted to package Karabiner-Elements but symlinking everything into /Library (with sudo : /) didn't seem to work.
<__monty__> I believe brew just copies files into /Library?
<eraserhd> __monty__: No idea, but I'm using Karbiner-Elements to work around Alacritty issues (which may no longer exist). Do you think it's better than khd, which is already supported by nix-darwin?
<__monty__> khd?
<eraserhd> Oh, I guess skhd now.
<__monty__> Hmm, doesn't seem as powerful as karabiner. I'd like to do things like map caps to escape if simply pressed but ctrl-whatever if used as modifier.
<eraserhd> ok, that makes sense. I think I have a weird use case. That said, if you find a solution, I'll test it and use it at least until such time as I sort out skhd.
<__monty__> I've given up for now. Installed it through homebrew. But my mappings aren't working : /

<eraserhd> I'm down to only a few packages installed via Homebrew! This is exciting!
<eraserhd> (They are: caskroom/fonts/font-mononoki, 1password, alfred, anki, docker, duet, karabiner-elements, mactex, osxfuse, slack, spotify, xquartz, and AVR cross-compiler environment for ErgoDox EZ.)
<gchristensen> nice!
<gchristensen> some of those I'd just go ahead and keep using brue
<gchristensen> brew*
<__monty__> Hmm, how do you like alfred, and are you familiar with quicksilver?
<__monty__> 1password is in nixpkgs I think?
<__monty__> Anki fails to build for me too : )
<__monty__> Oh, and I've been wanting to bump xQuartz.
<eraserhd> I tried to switch completely to nix in one fell swoop a long time ago, and things broke, and I got rid of nix, but now I'm doing it more sanely. The things that broke were third-party apps that need special permissions or do auto-updates.
<eraserhd> This is why I haven't done 1password or anki.
<eraserhd> I like alfred. I use very little of it, though.
<gchristensen> when I used macOS a lot more, I always got mac gui apps via brew or the app store
<gchristensen> Nix and Nixpkgs is not good at those
<eraserhd> Perhaps we should package homebrew for nix? :D
<eraserhd> I think... that idea is both terrible and good?

<__monty__> gchristensen: Let's *make* it good for that though : )
<disasm> gchristensen: I haven't seen the waiting for DSMOS thing. What triggers it? Also, was about 1700 each for the mac minis.
<gchristensen> dunno what triggers it
<gchristensen> it stands for Don'tStealMacOS
<disasm> gchristensen: ah, I think we built a custom clover
<disasm> let me find the code for that
<gchristensen> oh?
<gchristensen> it happens once every few boots. hard to predict
<disasm> I think clover image has something to do with the SMC emulation if I recall

<__monty__> Does anyone know how/if you can get nullfs working on mac os? I miss having bind mounts.
