<gchristensen>
anyone have a mac handy to see if `mapfile` is a builtin for bash?
<cransom>
on mine, mapfile is indeed a builtin
<cransom>
GNU bash, version 4.4.23
<gchristensen>
that is definitely not mac's default bash :P
<gchristensen>
mac's default bash is 3.2
<gchristensen>
.x
<cransom>
oh shit it's not. but it is the only bash i care about.
<cransom>
so no, i take it back. mapfile is not there.
<gchristensen>
dang
<cransom>
i wonder if the built in bash will be legally an adult before it's updated in macos.
<gchristensen>
hehe
<cransom>
it's definitely closer than it is further away.
<thefloweringash>
I’d assume it’d be removed before it would be updated, like other gpl software that moved to gpl3. gcc was also kept at its last gpl2 release (4.2.1) until clang replaced it.
<LnL>
the zsh rumor makes me think they won't ever upgrade it
<cransom>
zsh rumor?
<LnL>
apparently zsh might become the default login shell for users in the next release
<gchristensen>
not even a rumor, I've seen variables have to be set to silence a deprecation warning
<cransom>
having had to switch my account to zsh on every mac i've ever had, i guess thats one less step. which, has probably been a waste of time for me since every script i've ever written was bash centric
<LnL>
hmm I wonder what they are planning then, almost can't imagine bash actually being removed
<gchristensen>
someone was saying they can't upgrade because their kernel shells out to bash for wordexp?
<LnL>
heh
<gchristensen>
and it seems if they can't bother to fix that they won't remove it
