elvishjerricco: thanks for your answer the other day; came down with food poisoning and haven't had the energy to check the log until now :)
<abathur>
your dotfiles aren't public, right? I think I recall looking and coming up empty before aside from the reddit thread

<abathur>
trying to do a build on a fresh system with one of my own launchd.user.agents task definitions for the first time and the build fails trying to copy the plist to the ~/Library/LaunchAgents directory
<abathur>
not sure what I'm missing, maybe something implicit; don't see anything else obvious in the few public dotfiles using one
<LnL>
strange, do you have the exact error?
<abathur>
yeah
<abathur>
though it's on another system; the immediate error is just "cp: cannot create regular file '/Users/abathur/Library/LaunchAgents/org.nixos.backup.plist': No such file or directory"
<abathur>
which came after "setting up user launchd services...; creating user service org.nixos.backup"
<LnL>
hmm, does ~/Library/LaunchAgents exist by default?
<abathur>
a few lines up there's a "warning: Nix search path entry '/nix/var/nix/profiles/per-user/root/channels' does not exist, ignoring"; I think it already did that but not certain and it's been a bit since I did a full build
<abathur>
doesn't appear to
<abathur>
/Libary/Launch{Agents,Daemons} exist, but ~/Library/{Agents,Daemons} do not
<abathur>
minus the typo :)
<LnL>
aha, so I guess me and most other people already have that because of some other thing that's installed
<abathur>
two typos
<abathur>
yeah, that was my initial thinking
<abathur>
but I was a little suspicious, since I haven't found anyone else mentioning it yet
<LnL>
user LaunchDaemons are not a thing, but ~/Library/LaunchAgents should be created explicitly then to avoid this case
<abathur>
you're right; I inserted at least 3 errors in that one short line
<abathur>
I keep forgetting that there's no symmetry there
<LnL>
it's late over here, but please create an issue to remind me
<abathur>
ok
<abathur>
btw, any points of curiosity on a clean macos system? I'll probably end up doing a few more wipe/rebuild cycles
<abathur>
trying to reconcile a lot of refactoring and get everything back to working cleanly so I can move back to old macbook to get new one serviced, so not a huge rush
<abathur>
there should also be the mirror opportunity after I get it serviced, if you think of anything
<LnL>
there shouldn't be, people have used it on clean systems before
<abathur>
nod, I have too :)
<LnL>
but not everybody uses everything so there could be other assumptions like this one
<LnL>
maybe it even depends on the os version whether that is created by default or not
