I gave up on the initramfs minimisation, but you have > 2GiB RAM, right? It is wiped during switch_root, so RAM is not tied forever

There is of course a catch that NixOS boot list generation is not too modular for other-Nix-OSes, so I have an incompatible boot list generator…

If we are talking NixOS, I guess forbidding auto-loading of drivers and creating a short list of actually necessary things sounds like a plan
