fadenb: What do you think about having the wiki translated into multiple languages? I remember when I was younger that the German archwiki was quite helpful to get myself started. Although not in all countries English is taught early on.
<samueldr>
Mic92: there are schemes that don't require different domains, for translating a mediawiki wiki, but it does pollute the global namespace
<samueldr>
imo it would be a "nice to have", but the main concern with that is getting the work done, and information either diverging too much or being stale
<samueldr>
so in reality it almost always end up being a second wiki, in another language, which sometimes transliterates articles, sometimes is stale, and sometimes has different content
<samueldr>
(not saying that it is bad, but stating facts)
<Mic92>
samueldr: I wanted to start of with a basic installation tutorial and take it from their. I think having less information available is not a good reason not to have it.
<samueldr>
having less information is not a concern really, I'm more concerned about it becoming stale
<samueldr>
going from my experience with french-languge ressources
<Mic92>
German people love a wiki. French people put more effort in their dictionary. Looking at wikipedia
<Mic92>
When I look at NixCon's there are a lot of German people, a lot more than French to be honest
<Mic92>
same goes for irc channel.
<samueldr>
don't get me started on wikipedia in the french-language, which is co-opted by a French nationals instead of being for the whole francophonie :(
<samueldr>
(what I mean is that things from elsewhere take a backseat, or are removed as non-notable)
<Mic92>
I just want to make NixOS more accessible to younger people. They have the time and are more open to tinker with things like NixOS.
<Mic92>
And I think their is a language barrier that needs to be bridged. When I was starting with Linux I read a lot in ubuntuusers, which is a German wiki for ubuntu.
<samueldr>
oh, don't see my concerns as reasons to stop you!
<samueldr>
they're true concerns, but not reasons to not do it in themselves
<samueldr>
they would be issues which may want to try to guard against
