with networkd, when I change nixos config, I get a new dhcp address, and then I have to wait for ddclient to update. Now i'm trying setting networks."40-eno1".networkConfig.KeepConfiguration = "dhcp-on-stop"; i'm not sure if this will fix it yet. Anyone else had this happen? I'll probably make a github issue if this doesn't fix it.
<andi->
mvnetbiz_: what exactly are you changing on your nixos configuration and does your mac address / DUID change?
<mvnetbiz_>
I think it's nothing but an updated networkd causing systemd-networkd.service to restart. I'm not changing any configuration that's related to networking
<andi->
What DHCP server is on the other side?
<andi->
It shouldn't rotate the IP address unless that is explicitly requested.
<mvnetbiz_>
It's the ISP dhcp server. I can reboot OpenWRT router on it without getting a new ip address on that. mac address doesn't change, it's just a vlan interface on a regular ethernet port. its ipv4 only, no duid
<mvnetbiz_>
Even with KeepConfiguration=dhcp-on-stop, I see momentarily ip a show <iterface> loses the ip address when i restart networkd.service, but it's currently coming back with the same one. It might be something else that happens in nixos activation causing it, i'll have to debug more later, or maybe that fixed it even though it doesn't look like it has
<andi->
The address disappearing when stopping networkd is normal unless you tell it to keep it (as you did).. networkd should be using a generated duid that is consistent across reboots and thus you should get the same IP again.
