thefloweringash: hey! What's missing for apple silicon branch to be mergable?
<thefloweringash>
domenkozar: hello!
<thefloweringash>
things I think are essential: the darwin platform versions tidy up (#111988), a cross compilation story for llvm/clang (currently included, but Ericson2314 is also working on a better version in #111487)
<thefloweringash>
then the plan would be: merge the branch with bootstrap tools removed, get hydra to emit trustworthy tools, then inject the tools
<thefloweringash>
I have an integration test around that makes sure bootstrap files can be regenerated and then used to build a stdenv/hello, which I haven't run in a while. before we merge we should make sure that still passses.
<domenkozar[m]>
do you have commit access?
<domenkozar[m]>
I'd suggest running that script and saying to merge the PR in a few days unless someone complains.
<thefloweringash>
I don't have commit access
<domenkozar[m]>
I'd like to give you commit access so that you can move this forward
<domenkozar[m]>
I don't think it has to be perfect as it's a huge chunk of work, but as long as it doesn't break (and if it does, things are fixed) other platforms it can go
<thefloweringash>
I must say I'd be bit nervous having my first commit be something quite so large
<domenkozar[m]>
yeah that's understandable, but what's most important that when you merge it you have time that week in case there are any issues to be fixed
<domenkozar[m]>
I'm also fine doing the merging :)
<thefloweringash>
I can definitely be around to fix things. In this case I'd prefer if you merged when it's ready, if you don't mind :-)
