<bpye> remexre I really don't know in that case - it isn't a completely pure package because it uses the system's codesign tool - but I don't have any idea why the patches shouldn't apply...

<hhes> Hi! I just installed nix on macOS Big Sur and I'm struggling with getting it working properly. Basically, every time I want to darwin-rebuild switch, I need to first sudo chown -R hhes:staff /nix/ because of error: opening lock file '/nix/store/.../....drv.lock': Permission denied. I have services.nix-daemon.enable = true; and services.nix-daemon.enableSocketListener = true; in my darwin-configuration.nix. If I remove it, I'm getting error: The daemon
<hhes> is not enabled but this is a multi-user install, aborting activation. What am I doing wrong?

<__monty__> hhes: Have you rebooted since installing?
<__monty__> I'm not very familiar but it sounds like the launchctl service for the daemon isn't running.
<hhes> __monty__: no, but: pgrep nix-daemon returns me a PID
<hhes> so it seems to be running
<hhes> do you think I should try rebooting the system?
<__monty__> I think it can't hurt. Maybe abathur would like the opportunity to investigate your situation though?
<abathur> was offline, is this the PR installer?

<abathur> hhes: what command did you run to install Nix?

<abathur> anyways, this sounds a bit like nix-darwin#118 or nix-darwin#188 so I suspect that there's a mismatch; perhaps the install is single and not daemon
<abathur> hmm
<abathur> maybe LnL7/nix-darwin#118 and LnL7/nix-darwin#188
<{^_^}> https://github.com/LnL7/nix-darwin/issues/118 (by abathur, 2 years ago, closed): enabling nix-gc for single-user install changes store ownership to root after each GC
<{^_^}> https://github.com/LnL7/nix-darwin/issues/188 (by druimalban, 51 weeks ago, open): Enabling the nix daemon seems to change permissions on the store to root
<__monty__> abathur: Thanks. I guess hhes is rebooting.
