How far along is nix-darwin these days? I haven't had a mac for the past year and change and I'm now trying to decide if I should promote nix as a development workflow at work, where people mostly use macs
<benley>
I guess I mean both nix-darwin and nixpkgs on macos

Hello
<vieira>
I am trying nix for the first time, did a single user installation
<vieira>
but I am now running intro a "problem"
<vieira>
I installed node-slim (v9.7) and yarn
<vieira>
but yarn is using its own older version of node (v6.x)
<vieira>
when I have package.json files that depend on node > 6.x, yarn install fails
<vieira>
anyway to make it use the version of node I installed?
<vieira>
instead of its own?

vieira: #nixos might get a better response, it's much more active if your question isn't darwin specific.
<disasm>
benley: most things worked great (and better than homebrew equivalents). Some things are still broken, and some things were just nasty packages I was trying to get to work that I had issues with. Biggest problem I had was kwm/khd is just a lot more buggy compared to i3 on linux, but I doubt many mac people are going to be trying to alter the UI in that regards.

nix-darwin was great because I could make all the defaults write changes in version control instead of messing with the equivalents in system prefs. It also made writing launchd services really easy! (wrote openvpn launchd service in less than an hour)
<vieira>
disasm: ok will ask there later, thanks!
