<viric> relative to the church trend
<__Sander__> I believe in russia christmas is celebrated in january, right? :D

<gchristensen> hey y'all, looks like ofborg was failing to run tests for a bit now, and also Darwin builds. not sure how long. they're working again, sorry for the delay in the debug and fix. I really don't want there to be bugs in the system, because it is very important to me people feel like they can trust the results.
<gchristensen> is this a good idea: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/33700/files
<niksnut> seems ugly to me
<LnL> yeah, not sure if that's a good idea
<niksnut> I think it would be better to memoize Nixpkgs evaluation
<LnL> also, pretty sure the example won't work: import pkgs.path {}

<Sonarpulse> gchristensen, niksnut: we're getting close to the point with cross that we should try cross *eval*ing all of nixpkgs
joachifm has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Sonarpulse> and once I tweak meta.platforms to be a bit smarter
<Sonarpulse> maintaining some caches would probably be good to so regressions are actually noticed
<Sonarpulse> I think web assembly, risc-v, or android/linux would be good "weird" platforms to build
<Sonarpulse> separately there's the mac->linux stuff I started with lnl that everyone wants
<Sonarpulse> but I don't think more load on darwin machines is a good idea :)
<Sonarpulse> will incentive us to make some hack-substitutors to allow unsafely substituting native for cross builds and vice versa
<Sonarpulse> bgamari: started using gold on armv7 to get around the binutils bug, but now have some odd GMP word size failure https://hydra.nixos.org/build/67408422/nixlog/2
<LnL> would love to get that working, but I should probably fix sandboxing before starting to play with new stuff :)
<Sonarpulse> LnL: yeah don't worry I'll chip away at it

<bgamari> Sonarpulse, I have things working
<bgamari> one moment
<bgamari> Sonarpulse, I also encountered that
<Sonarpulse> bgamari: great!
* bgamari is in a meeting
<Sonarpulse> ok
<bgamari> Sonarpulse, see my ben-cross2 branch
<Sonarpulse> bgamari: ben-cross2! :O :D
<Sonarpulse> sure
<Sonarpulse> bgamari: d05919324ceb52a010cef4dabeef13494f7087e2 does ghc-itself not use gmp?
<Sonarpulse> I thought since ghc isn't built with stage0's base, it would
<bgamari> Sonarpulse, hmm
<bgamari> yes, that is a fair point
<bgamari> ahh
<bgamari> no, it doesn't
<bgamari> it links against the same libgmp as the stage0 compiler
<Sonarpulse> bgamari: huh weird
<Sonarpulse> well, probably best to just accept it until i go to town on configure
<Sonarpulse> bgamari: I'm tempted to try cross-building ghc too to really nail things down. expipiplus1 did that once
<bgamari> Sonarpulse, also, did you not see the cabal compiler name issue?
<bgamari> Sonarpulse, cabal's --compiler flag expects to see "ghc"
<bgamari> yet we passed the prefixed compiler name
<Sonarpulse> bgamari: yeah i had a hack for that before
<Sonarpulse> yours is better :)
<Sonarpulse> bgamari: I thought that in some cases cabal / cabal2nix did take the version though?
<bgamari> all I know is that things appear to work with my patch :)
<Sonarpulse> bgamari: cool
<Sonarpulse> b2b lunch
<bgamari> cheers

<copumpkin> niksnut: is there a good way to tell Nix that "no, I really don't give a shit about signed binary caches"? I have `nix.requireSignedBinaryCaches = false; nix.extraOptions = "signed-bianry-caches =";`
<copumpkin> but it's still moaning that my s3:// binary cache doesn't have a signature
<copumpkin> I had this working at some point but forgot how

<aminechikhaoui> copumpkin: are you doing that as a trusted user ?
<aminechikhaoui> That should be the config afaik, don't see anything wrong with that
<domenkozar> copumpkin: there is a typo in there
<niksnut> require-sigs = false
<copumpkin> niksnut: doesn't that go on one of the store URIs?
<copumpkin> domenkozar: yeah, that was just here
<copumpkin> not in the actual config
<copumpkin> I didn't override the default binary-cache-public-keys = cache.nixos.org-1:6NCHdD59X431o0gWypbMrAURkbJ16ZPMQFGspcDShjY=
<copumpkin> could that be confusing it?
<copumpkin> (this is 1.12 if not obvious from the s3:// reference above)
<aminechikhaoui> can someone switch this to nixos-17.09 https://hydra.nixos.org/jobset/nixops/master#tabs-configuration ?
<copumpkin> niksnut: damn, you're right
<copumpkin> who would've thought you knew what you were talking about
<copumpkin> niksnut: so should I just replace signed-binary-caches = with requireSigs = false?
<gchristensen> heads up, I took control of #nix today and it forwards to #nixos for now. I did this after hearing reports of people frustrated that #nix was so dead on freenode
<makefu> :D
<copumpkin> although I do wish our branding weren't so NixOS-heavy :)
<copumpkin> but that ship has sailed
<makefu> "#nix: Cannot join channel (+i) - you must be invited"
<gchristensen> makefu: leave #nixos then try
<copumpkin> you set up a +f?
<gchristensen> yeah
<makefu> but ... i don't want to leave ... :D
<LnL> it existed this whole time!?
<makefu> worked
<gchristensen> #nix has been a channel since 2001. the old access list showed some real internet pioneers inthere
<gchristensen> but it has been a dead channel for several years now, and the old owner handed it over
<domenkozar> !m gchristensen
<domenkozar> oh still no good work bot
<gchristensen> I'll take the good work in spirit :)
<LnL> yeah, what happened to the botbot.me request?
<gchristensen> crickets, they don't reply to anything
<LnL> :/

<domenkozar> more spam: is there a scala developer in nix community? we're hiring that as well at IOHK.
<gchristensen> until it becomes noisy, I see job posts as really good news :)
<domenkozar> well there's plenty of areas: https://iohk.io/careers/
<domenkozar> if someone wants to package up our nodejs app in nix, that would also be up for consulting.
<domenkozar> now I'll really stop :)
<copumpkin> scala!

<domenkozar> globin: ah yes!
<domenkozar> disasm: we have on-call in EU timezone
<domenkozar> disasm: we're also looking in US now
<disasm> I was debating about putting in an app for the devops engineer position :)
<domenkozar> very good :)
