<mjrussell13> Im trying to install cabal2nix ( nix-env -i cabal2nix) and its failing on libseccomp, not being able to find `endian.h`. I did some googling and it looks like that moved to machines/endian.h. I tried sym linking from /usr/include to /user/local/include to no avail. Has anyone seen this before?
<mjrussell13> Im on High Sierra if that helps at all

<puffnfresh> mjrussell13: weird I don't have that problem
<puffnfresh> I don't think symlinking would fix anything because there shouldn't be any impure expressions referencing /usr
<puffnfresh> make sure you nix-channel --update

<copumpkin> do we have a recommended "fully upgrade to nix 2.0 on darwin multiuser" guide?
<copumpkin> looking for something to point colleagues at
<copumpkin> that addresses the sudo -i, restarting the daemon, etc.
<LnL> I don't think so :/

<copumpkin> also, our default nix.conf set signed-binary-caches = * and now you get a warning if you set it
<copumpkin> definitely not a great user experience for upgrading right now :)
<LnL> yeah
<LnL> but it's not the default anymore, right?

<gchristensen> LnL: ever used LaunchControl from SomaZone?
<LnL> rings a bell, what is that?
<gchristensen> it is a gui thing for exploring launchd files: http://www.soma-zone.com/LaunchControl/
<LnL> oh that
<LnL> more like I installed it once :p
<gchristensen> ah :)
<LnL> so not really, what about it?
<gchristensen> just curious if you'd used it
<gchristensen> I've found it pretty good... easier than re-reading the man page the coulpe times a year I muck about in launchd files
<LnL> not really a gui person and I just look at nix-darwin now
<gchristensen> yeah, cool
<LnL> that reminds me, I think the KeepAlive thing isn't in the 2.0 maintenance branch yet
<LnL> I should really use a todo app or something
<LnL> :o
<gchristensen> :)
<gchristensen> LnL: what is your impression of the % of nix-on-mac users using nix-darwin?
<LnL> I have no clue
<gchristensen> anyone here not using it? :P
<LnL> well copumpkin doesn't :D
<gchristensen> oh!
<LnL> not sure if there's anybody else in here, but there are more darwin users ofcorse
<gchristensen> of course
<gchristensen> can a launchd's stdout / stderr files be the same file
<LnL> yes
<gchristensen> cool
<LnL> but no logrotate
<gchristensen> :(
<gchristensen> two steps forward, one step back?
<LnL> that's one of the main reasons I really like systemd/journald I feel like applications never handle that properly
<gchristensen> I agree
<LnL> also it won't create the logfile for you, so if you have an unprivileged service make sure it exists or the user can create it
<gchristensen> when will systemd run on macos
<LnL> otherwise it mysteriously won't start
<gchristensen> can launchd handle pid files, or like a pre-stop action?

<adelbertc> im trying to build tini on macOS - it currently is set to only build on linux (https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/7e15e17beae14a7643291a042e49f67e028825e3/pkgs/applications/virtualization/tini/default.nix#L27) so I added `allowBroken` to my config but now its failing on glibc which seems to have a `assert stdenv.cc.isGNU` assertion that is failing
<adelbertc> is there a workaround for this on macOS?
<LnL> glibc doesn't work on darwin, stdenv.cc.libc is the generic variant
<LnL> but I'm not sure about the static thing
pxc has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<LnL> maybe make that conditional? also cmake should be a nativeBuildInput
pxc has joined #nix-darwin
<adelbertc> hmmm ill give it a shot
<adelbertc> thanks!
