michaelpj: so one of the dependencies of the main project has a test-suite whose dependency no longer exists. The cabal file is outdated, and upstream people did not seem to be bothered because they just did not even build that test-suite. But when I try to build the executable of the main project, the configuration step of cabal fails and complains, reasonably, about that dependency

ptival: urgh yikes. I'm not sure we've tried to accommodate the case of a partially broken cabal config...
